Corrosion Resistance
Waspaloy offers excellent resistance to corrosion from combustion gases in gas turbines and jet engines at temperatures up to 1600°F, though intergranular oxidation may occur at higher temperatures.
workability
- Hot Working: Perform hot working between 1850–2150°F, with a recommended furnace temperature of 2150°F. Do not exceed the range to avoid hot short tearing.
- Cold Working: Provides good ductility in the annealed state but work hardens quickly, requiring frequent annealing. Cold-worked parts should not be aged to prevent strain-age cracking.
Machinability
Heat Treatment
Annealing: Performed at 1860–1880°F, with rapid cooling to achieve low hardness.
Hardening: Optimal stress rupture and creep resistance are obtained through high-temperature solution treatments at 1900–1975°F.
Aging: Stabilize at 1550°F for 4–24 hours, air cool, then precipitation age at 1400°F for 16 hours followed by air cooling.
