Corrosion Resistance of Inconel 718
Exhibits excellent corrosion resistance in a wide variety of environments, including oxidizing and reducing conditions.
Workability of Inconel 718
Hot working of the alloy is performed at furnace temperatures up to 2050°F (1121°C). For applications with service temperatures below 1100°F (593°C), hot-cold working in the range of 1700–1850°F (927–1010°C) enhances forging strength. Prolonged soaking at forging temperatures should be avoided, and uniform reductions are recommended to prevent duplex grain structures.
Heat Treatment of Inconel 718
For the optimum balance of tensile and stress rupture properties, heat treat the alloy at 1750–1800°F (954–982°C) for 1 hour, followed by air cooling. Then, hold at 1325°F (718°C) for 8 hours, cool at 100°F/hr to 1150°F (621°C), hold for another 8 hours, and air cool. For the best room-temperature and cryogenic tensile properties, heat treat at 1950°F (1066°C) for 1–2 hours, air cool, then follow the same two-step aging cycle of 1325°F (718°C) for 8 hours, cooling at 100°F/hr to 1150°F (621°C), holding for 8 hours, and air cooling.
